Cliniko MCP Integration
Enable MCP in Universal Plugins to give any MCP-compatible AI platform secure access to Cliniko. Copy your server URL, the upkey header name and your secure token, then paste them into your AI agent platform.
Available tools include get_clinic_info, find_patient, create_patient, update_patient, check_availability, get_appointments, create_appointment, update_appointment and cancel_appointment.
MCP gives an AI agent a live, permissioned connection to Cliniko. Instead of guessing, the agent can read genuine practitioner availability, look up an existing patient, create a new one, book an appointment, move it or cancel it - all during the conversation, using the same secure Universal Plugins key as the rest of the integration.
You add the server URL and the authentication header to your Gohighlevel Voice AI or chat agent, and the agent gains the ability to work with the real diary. Nothing is stored on our side beyond what is needed to pass the request through.
This is the capability behind an after-hours receptionist that books instead of taking a message: the caller asks for Thursday afternoon, the agent checks the diary, offers what is genuinely free, and confirms the booking before the call ends.
What the AI agent can do
With MCP connected, an agent can look up an existing patient, create a new one, read genuine practitioner availability, book an appointment, move it, or cancel it - all inside a live conversation and all against the real Cliniko diary. It is not a scripted simulation of booking; the appointment exists in Cliniko before the call ends.
The tools exposed are deliberately narrow and named for what they do, which keeps agent behaviour predictable and makes it obvious in a transcript which action the agent took on the clinic's behalf.
How to connect it
Enable MCP in Universal Plugins, then copy three values into your agent platform: the server URL, the authentication header name, and your secure Universal Plugins key. Each value has a copy button on the dashboard so nothing is retyped. No middleware, hosting or development work is involved.
The same secure key authorises MCP and the rest of the integration, so revoking a connection removes the agent's access at the same time.
Testing before you go live
Run a full rehearsal before pointing a phone number at the agent: ask for a time you know is taken, ask for one you know is free, book it, then cancel it - checking Cliniko after each step. That single pass surfaces mapping and permission problems that are difficult to diagnose from a call recording afterwards.
Once bookings land correctly, the ordinary Gohighlevel confirmation and reminder sequences take over automatically because the appointment syncs like any other.
